The properties and dynamics of degradation of composite materials based on isotactic polypropylene/low density polyethylene blends and cellulose filler have been investigated. The composite materials with a high PP content (as PP is a continuous phase) more sensitive to oxidative destruction have higher values of weight loss at the initial period of environmental degradation. However, the materials with the low PP content characterized by a lower degree of crystallinity and density of amorphous regions show a higher capacity for biofouling by microorganisms that may has a significant effect on the period of ultimate degradation.
