Interaction of two counterpropagating coherent transverse-electric electromagnetic waves in the absorbing plate, placed in a waveguide of arbitrary cross section, is considered. It is supposed, that the waves with various initial phases incident on the boundaries of the plate from two parties. The analytical expression for the power transmission interference coefficient is found. Some physical features of tunnel interference in a plate are revealed. It is shown, that at the certain relationship between the initial phases of counterpropagating waves it is possible to create a situation, when to the left of plate in a waveguide there is a stream of electromagnetic energy and on the right – is absent, or, on the contrary, to the right of a plate in a waveguide there is a stream of electromagnetic energy and at the left – is absent.
