2005 – Status of Doctor of jurisprudence defended in Kutafin Moscow State Law Academy (currently – Kutafin Moscow State Law University). A scientific work is named "Legal regulation of foreign investments in oil and gas".

Scientific and teaching activities

2008-2012 – Professor of Business Law Department of Kutafin Moscow State Law Academy.

2010-2012 – Head of Civil and Labor Law Department of the Russian State University of Trade and Economics.

2013 – 2014 - Head of the Center of Comparative Law Researches of the Institute of Legislation and Comparative Law under the Government of the Russian Federation.

Starting from 2013 – Head of Secretariat of Russian Federation delegation in the European Commission for democracy through law (Venice Commission).

Starting from 2013 – Head of Civil Law and Procedure Department of Plekhanov Russian University of Economics.

Starting from 2016 – Head of Department Civil Law Disciplines of the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics.

In 2017 Prof. Kurbanov received the title of the Honorary Professor of the Institute of Law and Human Rights under the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan.  Currently, Rashad Kurbanov is the Director of the Institute of Legal Research and Regional Integration, member of the Scientific Council, Head of Department Civil Law Disciplines of the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics.Professor Kurbanov is the head of the Scientific School "Economic and Legal foundations of Eurasian integration" of the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, the author and co-author of more than 270 publications, including 14 individual and 20 collective monographs, 24 textbooks and manuals published in Russia, the United States, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Belarus, Italy, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan on legal support of the economy, comparative law, energy law, the legal basis of regional integration.

R. Kurbanov is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation, Expert of Russian Academy of Sciences, member of Presidium and the head of the Department on State formation and law of the Scientific Advisory Council of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union of Belarus and Russia, member of the Working group under the Chairman of the Russian State Duma for legal analysis of the legislative process and accepted normative legal acts, member of the Advisory Council on intellectual property protection and technology transfer at the International Association of Academies of Sciences. Rashad Kurbanov is the Chief editor of the scientific magazine "Economics. Law. Society" of the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, member of the educational-expert board of the scientific magazines "Law and Right", "Education. Science. Scientific Personnel", member of the editorial board of the scientific magazines "Energy Law", "Russian journal of legal research", "Energy law", "International law", "Legal research"(Russia), scientific journal of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan "Revival", "Law Economics Psychology" of Vitebsk State University (Belarus), member of Law and Economics Advisory Board of Cambridge Scholars Publishing (United Kingdom)Expert of the (Group of States Against Corruption of the Council of Europe (GRECO), (Fourth Evaluation Round of Austria. Corruption prevention in respect of members of parliament, judges and prosecutors); expert of Working Group on development of educational course on the property rights for judges and prosecutors of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the framework of the programme HELP (Human Rights Education for Legal Professionals) of the Directorate General Human Rights and Rule of Law of the Council of Europe. In 2013-2016 R. Kurbanov was a Head of the Secretariat of the Russian Delegation in the European Commission for Democracy through Law (Venice Commission) of the Council of Europe.
