Founded in 1907
The Department of Informatics provides teachers to read courses at all faculties of the University, in magistracy, postgraduate study and in the UC for retraining and advanced training of employees of higher education.
The goal of the department is to use high-performance educational technologies to qualitatively prepare competitive specialists, competent in the field of informatics and ICT, who possess modern means of processing and analyzing information.
The aim of the department:
- to provide a high theoretical and methodological level of knowledge with practical orientation, to systemize and integrate of the learning process;
-increase of the scientific and professional qualifications of the teaching staff, improve the quality of teaching;
- organization of scientific and applied research, preparation and publication of scientific articles, active participation in research work;
- improving the quality of theses and master's theses;
- provide of scientific guidance for the preparation of dissertations, improvement of work with postgraduate students of the department;
The history of the Department of Informatics began in the 1960s when an electronic computing laboratory was created at the Department of Economic and Mathematical Methods and Computing Techniques in Economics. Later, the laboratory was transformed into the Computer Science Department, which in 1980 was headed by Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, Honored Worker of Science and Technology of the RSFSR, later Academician, one of the founders of the national computer programming school Anatoly Ivanovich Kitov. The name of the Department of Informatics was received on October 23, 1979. Its organizer and first leader was Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Konstantin Ivanovich Kurbakov. In the period from 2001 to 2011 the department was headed by Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Igor Ivanovich Popov. Since September 2011 the department is headed by Doctor of Economic Sciences, Assistant Professor Olga V. Kitova. In 2016 the Department of Informatics was merged with the Department of Information Technologies.
Personnel and scientific potential of the department: 7 professors, doctors of science; 28 associate professors, candidates of sciences; 8 senior teachers; 2 assistants. The department trains more than 10 graduate students, doctoral students and applicants for academic degrees.
The entire staff of scientific and pedagogical staff of the Department of Informatics regularly publishes the results of their research on the most topical issues of computer science in well-known Russian and foreign scientific magazines, as well as monographs and textbooks. Employees of the department are scientific editors of leading Russian and foreign journals.
Leading professors of the department are members of the European Association of Artificial Intelligence (EAAI), the World Federation of Fuzzy Systems (IFSA), the IEEE Computer Society, the Interregional Public Organization "Association of Cognitive Studies" (MAKI), the Russian Association of Artificial Intelligence, the Russian Association of Fuzzy Systems and Soft Computing and other scientific associations.

The department actively interacts with leading IT companies: IBM, Microsoft, Cisco, 1C, Consultant Plus, BOS Glavbukh, Garant and others. With the active participation of the department at the Russian Academy of Economics. GV Plekhanova works the Academic Competence Center of IBM "Reasonable Commerce", whose director is the d. n. O. V. Kitova.
Graduates of the department work in leading international and Russian IT companies: IBM, Microsoft, Kaspersky Lab, 1C, IBS, Tehnoserv, IT, Navison and others.
The Department of Informatics was found in 23rd October 1979. Its organizer and first leader was Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Konstantin Ivanovich Kurbakov. In the period from 2001 to 2011 the department was headed by Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Igor Ivanovich Popov. Since September 2011 the department is headed by Doctor of Economic Sciences, Assistant Professor Olga V. Kitova.
In 2014 it was merged with the Department of Computing Systems and Telecommunications (head - Doctor of Technical Sciences D. U. Nechaev). It happened as the result of the accession of the Russian State Trade and Plekhanov Economic University.
In 2015 The Department of Informatics was merged with Department of Information Systems in Economics and Management (found in 1999, in 2006 was renamed), which firstly was run by Doctor of Technical Sciences, professor V. P. Romanov, and since 2010 – by Doctor of Technical Sciences, docent A. A. Popov.
In 2016 the Department of Informatics was merged with the Department of Information Technologies, which has been headed by Doctor of Technical Sciences, docent U. D. Romanova.
Department of Information Technology is a historical receiver of three departments of the Moscow Institute of National Economy of G. V. Plekhanov: Computing Programming Technique (founded in 1970, the first head is docent A. V. Korchagin, and since 1980 – by Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor A. I. Kitov); Automatic control systems and automated workplaces (founded in 1970; head – professor G. A. Eremeev); Computer technology training (founded in 1988; head - Doctor of Technical Sciences, docent O. N. Grigorov). After the creation in 1991, the Department of Information Technology was headed by ON Grigoriev, since 1994 - A. K. Volkov.
