In accordance with the order of the Ministry of Trade of the USSR from 12.03.1956 N 147 the Study Support Centre of the All-Union Correspondence Institute of Soviet Trade was created in Voronezh. Hereinafter the following renaming and reorganizations of the branch were made:

- 13.03.1964 order N 128 of the Russian Federation Ministry of Trade "On the reorganization into the Voronezh Department of Soviet Trade Correspondence Institute";

- 25.09.1995 order N 84 of the Russian Federation Committee on Trade "On the renaming into "The Voronezh Branch of Moscow State University of Commerce";

- 15.11.2002 order N 376 of the Russian Federation Ministry of Economic Development and Trade on the renaming into the Voronezh Branch of the Russian State University of Economics and Trade;

- 14.01.2004 order N 6 of the Russian Federation Ministry of Economic Development and Trade on the renaming into the Voronezh Branch of state educational establishment of higher professional education " The Russian State University of Economics and Trade";

25.05.2011 order N 1776 of the Russian Federation Department of Education and Science on the renaming into the Voronezh Branch of federal state budget educational establishment of higher professional education "The Russian State University of Economics and Trade

- 2012 – by the order N 1075 of from 20 December, 2012 of the Russian Federation Department of Education and Science the Voronezh Branch of federal state budget educational establishment of higher professional education "The Russian State University of Economics and Trade was affiliated with the Russian University of Economics named after G.V. Plekhanov with the name "The Voronezh Branch of federal state budget educational establishment of higher professional education "The Russian University of Economics named after G.V. Plekhanov";

On October 13, 2015 by making an entry into the Unified State Register of Legal Entities a new revised version of the Organization Charter and a new name of the University were registered. In accordance with the order N 872 of the Russian Federation Department of Education and Science from 19 August, 2015 "On Federal State budget educational establishment of higher professional education "The Russian University of Economics named after G.V. Plekhanov" the Federal State budget educational establishment of higher professional education "The Russian University of Economics named after G.V. Plekhanov" was renamed into the Federal State budget educational establishment of higher education "The Russian University of Economics named after G.V. Plekhanov".

The Voronezh Branch of federal state budget educational establishment of higher professional education "The Russian University of Economics named after G.V. Plekhanov is renamed into the Voronezh Branch of federal state budget educational establishment of higher education "The Russian University of Economics named after G.V. Plekhanov".​
