The Volgograd branch was founded in 1959 as the branch of the Correspondence Institute of Soviet Trade. In 1995, the branch was renamed the Volgograd branch of the Moscow State University of Commerce, in 2002, the Volgograd branch of the Russian State University of Trade and Economics.
In 2012, by decision of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, the Russian State University of Trade and Economics and its branches were incorporated the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics. According to the order № 75/201212 of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, the Volgograd branch became an independent structural unit of the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics.
Nowadays the Volgograd branch of the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics is the Federal State Educational Institution. It is well-organized, technically equipped with its own training areas and staffed with highly qualified faculty members. The educational process is aimed at the formation of students' professional competences in trade and economics with the use of modern laboratories, computers and information base, multimedia technology.
The areas of training realized in the Volgograd branch of the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, fully meet the requirements of the staff of the developing consumer market, commerce and public catering of the Volgograd region.
Today the Volgograd branch is the only one university in the Volgograd region which trains specialists in the field of commodity research and examination of goods. Graduates of different areas of training work successfully in big retail chains, public catering establishments and consumer market of the Volgograd region and other regions.
The high quality of the educational process today is guaranteed by the realization of 3 basic educational programs for bachelors (7 profiles), 8 basic educational programs for specialists, 4 basic educational programs of masters.
A lot of attention is paid to the training of pedagogical and scientific personnel. Students have the opportunity to take a postgraduate course.
