The institute was established in 1964. It joined Plekhanov Russian University of Economics in 2013.

In October 2015 the branch intergrated Perm branch of Federal state budgetary educational institution of higher professional education​ Moscow State University of Economics, Statistics and Informatics.

The full title of the institute is Perm Institute (branch) of Federal State Budgetary Educational Institution of Higher Professional Education of Plekhanov Russian University of Economics.
