For more than half a century Kemerovo Institute (branch) of Plekhanov Russian University of Economics has been training the professional staff for the basic industries and commercial area of Kuzbass.
Its story began with a consultancy center in the early 1960s. During that period there was an urgent need for skilled commercial workers in the region. In the early 1960s there were only 21 persons working in the commercial area in Kuzbass with higher education, and many workers without secondary education. At that time the specialists for commercial enterprises were prepared in Kuzbass only by Novokuznetsk College of Soviet trade. The College could not solve the problem of training highly skilled personnel for the trade area of Kuzbass. Therefore, on the 19 November 1963 the Ministry of Trade issued an order 657 «Of establishing of educational and consultancy center of Correspondence Institute of Soviet Trade in Kemerovo». A major mission was to train highly skilled personnel for the area of commerce for Kemerovo, Tomsk, Omsk regions and Krasnoyarsk Kray.
A new step of the development the institute made in the 90s of the XX century when there was an urgent need for personnel able to work efficiently in the market economy. The institute had successfully coped with this task and had become one of the key links in the training of economists, managers, lawyers, marketers, specialists in the field of commerce, applied computer science for the economy of Kuzbass.
Today the institute has come to a new stage of its development. In accordance with the Order of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation of 20.12.2012 № 1075 the two largest economic universities of Russia: Plekhanov Russian University of Economics and Russian State University of Trade and Economic were merged.
In accordance with the Order of the Russian Ministry of Education of 03.10.2015 № 185 «Of reorganization of the federal state budget educational institution of higher professional education «Plekhanov Russian University of Economics» and the federal state budget educational institution of higher professional education «Moscow State University of Economics, Statistics and Informatics (MSUESI)» Kemerovo branch of MSUESI was joined to Kemerovo institute (branch) of Plekhanov Russian University of Economics as a structural unit.
