On September 6th 2016 the international rating agency QS Quacquarelli Symonds published its regular issue of the world best universities rating - QS World University Rankings 2016/2017. Plekhanov Russian University of Economics has been ranked about 800 world leading universities since 2012 and in 2016 the University remains its position.

In 2016 80 countries represented their universities, 182 of which were from Russia. The 22 Russian universities hit the rating and PRUE has been one of them.

In the QS WUR ratings the leading institutions in the world were rated by the 6 criterions: reputation in the field of scientific research, the ratio of teachers to number of students, reputation of university among employers, citation index of scientific publications, the share of foreign students and foreign teachers.

In spite of the transformation processes occurred in PRUE in 2015 which had a negative impact on such characteristics as the ratio of students to number of teachers, graduate employability and citation in terms of internationalization (number of foreign teachers and students) and academic reputation, firstly at the international level, the University criterions have been improved and allowed to remain the position 701+.

Furthermore, Plekhanov Russian University of Economics is included in the other QS ratings such as BRICS best universities rankings, EECA rankings and it is also the first Russian institution which reached "4 stars" category in QS Stars University Ratings in 2015.
