November 22, 2017, Mayor of Moscow Sergey Sobyanin visited Plekhanov Russian University of Economics and gave a lecture to students about the city problems and the ways to effectively solve them.
Rector Victor Grishin in his welcoming speech emphasized, "We are all lucky to live in such city as Moscow. It is not even a city but a whole world. You can find a dream job, and any cultural aspect. Our University cooperates closely with Moscow Departments of transport and road traffic infrastructure, education, Main Monitoring Directorate of Moscow. In our projects we develop various technologies and help find solutions to improve our city".
Sergey Sobyanin welcomed the audience and said, "Due to the fact that you are studying at a leading University in the future depends on you how you will develop and businesses of the city, and Moscow in General. I want to tell you about what administrative decisions that affect the fate of the capital and its residents, we take every day. I am grateful to your school for what he is producing quality professionals. We have only in the economic bloc has about 150 graduates of Plekhanov University. I think you will always be desirable candidates for positions in divisions of Moscow".
At the event, the mayor announced one of the last decisions that had been supported by him on the eve of the meeting: "Your University grant will be allocated about 500 million rubles on creation of the higher tariff school." Mr. Sobyanin said that this is a joint project of the city government and the Federal Antimonopoly service.
After the lecture, the mayor was glad to answer the students' questions. The audience was interested in tourism prospects for the city and the volunteer movement, the possibility of "green" construction and development of transport accessibility of new residential neighborhoods, including those that will appear under the program of renovation.
The students tried to obtain information on how the city supports young entrepreneurs, and as demand innovation. One of the questions was connected with the spread in the city of cryptocurrency and blockchain technology, namely whether it is planned, its implementation in the infrastructure management of the city.
"The topic is relevant," admitted Mr. Sobyanin. According to him, in the future cryptocurrency could replace the dollar financial system. "As for the blockchain, it is a very promising story. We have such a system as "Active citizen" - a platform through which we learn the opinion of residents on various issues. Sometimes we are accused of bias, of cheat votes. So now we are moving our online portal system the blockchain to the data on the "Active citizen" was not only in our but also in several other independent bases. Then we know no one will say that we sort of tighten up or change the questions"
Another topic that troubled the students, the labor market of Moscow. Students were interested in issues about which professionals will be in demand in the near future, in what areas can work graduates of the Institute and is there a possibility to do an internship in the government of Moscow.
During his visit, the mayor met with the scientific developments of the University. In the framework of the scientific work, there were presented the projects implemented by the University: "Analysis of the labor market of Moscow on the basis of the Situational center of Plekhanov Russian University of Economics", where the performance capabilities of the Situation center in addressing socio-economic tasks and problems in the field of management, including the cities, provides information on the work performed for Federal and regional public authorities, for the government of Moscow.
Academic Department of Marketing presented the results of the project "Monitoring the quality of service for passengers and transport infrastructure in Moscow". PRUE several years has been working closely with the Department of transport and development of road traffic infrastructure. Students and University teachers conducted a large-scale marketing research for the development of transport services of Muscovites and guests of the capital. In 2014, the monitoring of the condition of underground and above ground passenger transport on indicators of perceived quality of transport service and comfort. In 2015, PRUE has received three grants of the Government of Moscow for the whole complex of scientific-research works by request of Department of transportation and development of road transport infrastructure. In 2016, the Plekhanov University initiative supported a study to identify the willingness of passengers to use SMART technology to select the means of public transport and route planning. From August 2017, experts and students of the University started the implementation of three large-scale research projects in priority directions of development of transport infrastructure of Moscow – quality of passenger service, development of Bicycle infrastructure, establishment of economically justified tariffs.
Among the developments of the natural Sciences cluster of the University presented a solution to the problem of non-degradable polymer waste in large cities. Scientists of Academic Department of Chemistry and Physics have developed a biodegradable polymer composite material, which proposed to replace the traditional polyethylene. Its cost is comparable with conventional polyethylene.
At the end of the event, the mayor paid special attention to the blockchain-University projects for urban, presented by Institute of management and social-economical designing and Educational and Scientific Center "Cybernetics" such as "Smart technologies for housing" (project "Energy opportunities in the digital transformation of the economy") and the project's Digital platform, the "Electronic City", which aims to create based on blockchain technology, electronic record keeping, holding and maintenance of all types of transactions, services, civil legal relations, the calculations and documents on the basis of a common register of natural and legal persons, including property and intellectual property that will not only improve efficiency and speed e-municipality and reduce the cost of administrative services state services, but can become the basis of a single multilingual investment platform.
