In the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2021, PRUE entered the top 200 universities in the world for compliance with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and took 1st place in Russia for providing quality education

​The British rating agency Times Higher Education (THE) has published the results of the world ranking of the impact of universities on achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (THE Impact Rankings 2021). Plekhanov Russian University of Economics took part in this rating for the second time and occupies several top positions in it, three of which are the strongest in Russia.


The ranking evaluates the extent to which the impact of the world's universities on society is consistent with the Sustainable Development Goals (eliminating poverty and hunger, ensuring health and well-being, quality education, decent work and economic growth, responsible consumption and production, and others), which were adopted by the United Nations in 2015.


According to the goal "Quality education", Plekhanov University ranked 8th in the world (out of 966 universities) and 1st in Russia (out of 77). The goal is to promote "inclusive and equitable quality education" and to realize "lifelong learning opportunities for all members of society".


According to the goal "Peace, Justice and Effective Institutions", Plekhanov Russian University of Economics ranked 23rd in the world (out of 653) and 1st in Russia (out of 49). The goal is to promote "a peaceful and inclusive society for sustainable development, access to justice for all, and effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels".


According to the goal "Reducing inequality", the university ranked 87th in the world (out of 669) and 1st in Russia (out of 37). This goal means contributing to " reducing inequality within and between countries, ensuring that no one is left behind.


According to the goal "Decent work and economic growth", the university was among the 200 best universities in the world (685) and 9 best universities in Russia (out of 57). This goal includes "creating the conditions for people to have quality jobs that stimulate economic development without harming the environment, by increasing productivity, reducing unemployment, especially among young people, and increasing access to financial services and benefits."


In 2021, Plekhanov Russian University of Economics for the first time submitted information for participation in the rating for the goal "Sustainable Cities and Settlements". This goal includes "ensuring universal access to adequate, safe and affordable housing and basic services, safe, affordable, accessible and environmentally sustainable transport systems, promoting the use of public transport, ensuring environmentally sustainable urbanization and opportunities for integrated and sustainable human settlements planning and management through broad participation, efforts to protect and preserve the world cultural and natural heritage". The University ranked 301-400 in the world (out of 656) and was among the 13 strongest universities in Russia (out of 42).


In total, Plekhanov University in 2021 took part in the rating on the impact on achieving the implementation of the seven Sustainable Development Goals. According to the goal "Gender Equality", the university took the position 201-300 in the world (out of 776) and the position 5-12 in Russia (out of 44), according to the goal "Partnership for Sustainable Development" – the position 301-400 (out of 1154) and the number of the 6 best universities in Russia (out of 81).


According to the results of the overall rating, PRUE entered the TOP 200 universities in the world and the top three strongest universities in Russia in terms of their impact on achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals.


In total, 1115 universities of the world were included in the rating. Times Higher Education uses carefully selected metrics to provide comprehensive and balanced comparisons across three areas: research, outreach, and management.
