Plekhanov Russian University of Economics improved its position in ranking of British agency QS

​The analytical agency Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) announced The QS World University Rankings by Subjects 2020. This year the QS Subject rating evaluates 48 subjects combined into five areas. The ranking evaluates the activities of 1350 universities from more than 150 countries on four indicators: academic reputation, employers' opinion, citation index, Hirsch index. For every subject rating the value of these indicators is different.


In subject rating «Social Sciences and Management» PRUE increase the rating and now gets the 69th position (the 255th in the world, the 4th in Russia) among 501 universities including 12 Russian ones.

The most important role in this improving had citation index (an increase of 22.3 points) and «Hirsch index» (an increase of 6.6 points).

The first time PRUE entered the ranking in the subject area «Social Sciences and Management» in 2017 at the position of 401-450.


In subject rating «Economics and Econometrics» PRUE increased of 50 points (the 201-250th in the world, the 3rd in Russia) among 500 universities including 11 ones from Russia. It is the first subject rating, where PRUE entered the top-3 national leaders. All indicators by which the universities are evaluated have increased at PRUE, especially citation index and academic reputation. It is in this subject rating that PRUE has the largest increase in final result - more than 5.3 points, that allowed PRUE to overtake one of the Russian universities and to take the third position. The first time PRUE entered the ranking in the subject area «Economics and Econometrics» in 2019 at the position of 251-300.


In subject rating «Business and management» PRUE has kept the position (the 251st –the 300th  in the world, the 4th in Russia) among 501 universities including 8 ones from Russia. The academic reputation and citation index dropped, but due to increase of other indicators - employers' opinion and Hirsch index, the final result of PRUE dropped by less than one point. Mentioned indicators helped the University to keep the same position in ranking.


According to QS PRUE has a good chance to enter in subject ratings in humanities (linguistics, history), in natural sciences (chemistry and mathematics), in social sciences and management (social politics, law, education).


The strategy of research in specialized areas has been implemented at the University since 2016. The University has seven priority areas of research in economics, management, information technology, education. The administration purposefully navigates the university professors and scientists to lead research in these areas, allocating internal grants for these purposes, financing the creation of new laboratories and increasing the number of scientists.
